Our Mission

Protecting Human Health Through Science

We are dedicated to protecting human health from environmental harms through research, education, and the promotion of sound public policies.

Our mission has guided Environment & Human Health, Inc. (EHHI) since its founding in 1997. For nearly three decades, EHHI has brought together physicians, scientists, public health experts, engineers, and policy leaders to investigate environmental exposures that may affect human health and to translate scientific discoveries into practical solutions.

We believe that independent science should inform public understanding and public policy. By conducting research, educating communities, and promoting evidence-based policies, EHHI works to reduce the risks of health impacts from environmental exposures and create healthier communities for future generations.

Our Philosophy

Our mission has guided Environment & Human Health, Inc. (EHHI) since its founding in 1997. For nearly three decades, EHHI has brought together physicians, scientists, public health experts, engineers, and policy leaders to investigate environmental exposures that may affect human health and to translate scientific discoveries into practical solutions.

We believe that independent science should inform public understanding and public policy. By conducting research, educating communities, and promoting evidence-based policies, EHHI works to reduce the risks of health impacts from environmental exposures and create healthier communities for future generations.

How We Fulfill Our Mission

Conduct Independent Scientific Research

EHHI identifies emerging environmental exposures that may affect human health and conducts or supports independent scientific research to better understand those risks. Our work examines issues such as air quality, drinking water, toxic chemicals, plastics and microplastics, children's environmental health, cancer prevention, and healthy homes, schools, and workplaces.

Educate the Public

Scientific research only improves lives when people understand it. EHHI translates complex scientific findings into clear, accessible educational resources that help individuals, families, healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers make informed decisions.

Promote Sound Public Policies

Science should help guide public policy. EHHI works to ensure that policymakers have access to objective scientific evidence when developing laws and regulations that affect human health. Many of EHHI's science-based policy solutions have been developed and demonstrated in Connecticut before informing broader discussions and initiatives across the United States. Policies advanced by EHHI have been adopted across the nation, including South Carolina, Utah, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Minnesota, Washington, New Jersey, and Maine, just to name a few.

Looking Ahead

Environmental exposures continue to evolve, creating new scientific questions and public health challenges. EHHI remains committed to conducting independent research, educating the public, and promoting sound public policies that reduce the risks of health impacts from environmental exposures.

Through science, education, and evidence-based policy, EHHI continues to advance its mission of protecting human health for today's communities and for future generations.
